Does check payment have much risk? How can I let my client do?
Post 1 of 6
Hello, everyone. I need help. My client from UK needs 10 set office furniture, totally USD 5600.00. And 40% T/T in advance,as agreed.  But last two week, she told me she asked one of her client to make payment by check payment.

Today, we receive her cheque, our banker told me it is risk much and is better to return the cheque to the client and ask her to T/T. Is it an only good way?

Replying to [nancystramonium]: Yes you return checque to customer. Ive never seen overseas cheque.

It's demand draft and it takes 25-30 Days to clear..

You ask them to send T/t otherwise they have to wait till cheque is cleared.

As I read 40% T/T in advance is agreed !

If the cheque is from her, beware !

If she got the cheque from her client, why she not clear it at home and make the T/T ? Didn´t she trust her client ?

It is suspicious, if you try to clear the cheque and it´s a fake you have all clearing cost on your side.

Contact by mail and say you want send back the cheque and when she has cleared it, she shall make the agreed T/T, it is the cheapest way for you !

Replying to [nancystramonium]:[em1]I don't know for sure how China banking system work. But, one thing you could do is call the bank that issue the check and verified the fund available to that account. If the fund is more that enough then go ahead and cash it in. If not then return the check and ask for a T/T.[em1]

Thanks ,everyone. This client is verysuspicious. She paid more USD10000.00 to us by cheque payment. So, today I ask for my clients address, then return it to her. In addition, the cheque is arranged by her friend in UAE, AND she is in UK. So, I need to return cheque to her and ask her for T/T,if she really want to do business with us.right?

Replying to [nancystramonium]: Give her two choices:
1-You return the cheque, she gets it cleared and T/T the balance to you.
2-You get it cleared here in China, but she has to wait for you to get the payment before you release the goods. Or you tell her that you will send the goods but will release the documents to her only when you get the money. Of course you delay the shipment as late as possible.
I would go for the second one since you already have 40% of the payment. Sending back would be not nice especially if she has not intention to fraud you.
