Important :MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEET
Post 1 of 5
We are manufacturer of Artificial Dental Teeth.Since we are new to exporting our products , one of our interested clients from the Oceania region has asked Material Safety Data Sheet.
We have observed Material Safety data sheet of other Artificial Teeth Manufacturing companies from the internet and the contents are pretty much similar only a few alterations needs to be done. Also, our product is not a hazardous product and only 1% of chemicals is used.
Now, my worries are do we need to get material safety data sheet made by some authority and if yes then what regulations need to be followed? or can we make it with the data we have and send to the client?
Since we are new to exporting and are under process of obtaining
CE Mark and ISO which gets completed in 3 months time, can we still without having these documents at the moment send our client Material Safety Data sheet?
Is it possible to do business without CE Mark & ISO in Australia?
Mind you our client hasnt asked for these certificates
Do CE Marks and Material Safety data sheet have a connection in any which and are provided by CE providing companies?
I will be grateful if someone gives me more detailing regarding this matter.

Best Regards

Replying To  [dental]:

Just put the MSDS on YOUR Letterhead and put all the details that relate to your product under the letterhead. No need for any authority to do it.

 What is an MSDS?

An MSDS is a document containing important information about a hazardous substance and must state:
  • a hazardous substance’s product name
  • the chemical and generic name of certain ingredients
  • the chemical and physical properties of the hazardous substance
  • health hazard information
  • precautions for safe use and handling
  • the manufacturer’s or importer’s name, Australian address and telephone number.
The MSDS provides employers, self-employed persons, workers and other health and safety representatives with the necessary information to safely manage the risk from hazardous substance exposure.
It is important that everyone in the workplace knows how to read and interpret a MSDS.

  Access to MSDS

Access to a MSDS can be provided in several ways including:
  • paper and microfiche copy collections of MSDS with microfiche readers open to use by all workers
  • computerised and internet MSDS databases.
The register of MSDS should be used as an information tool to make sure everyone is involved in managing hazardous substances exposure at the workplace.
A MSDS should be reviewed whenever there is:
  • a change in formulation which:
    • affects the hazardous properties of the substance
    • alters the form, appearance or mode of application of the substance
  • a change to the hazardous substance which alters its health and/or safety hazard or risk
  • new health and/or safety information on the hazardous substance such as exposure standard changes or a substance previously considered not harmful is now established to be harmful (e.g. carcinogenic
  • at least every five years.

Replying to [dental]:Hi,
I The whole thing MSDS MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEET is so that the handling and shipment of the item (in your case, the product, can be done properly)
so, it may be important to detail those 10% of chemicals used just so that in the event of spills and leakage, as well as storage, they can have the right handling.

This is also good for separation.

From what I read, you only need to send it once to the distributor and you do not need to have 1 for the consumer and end-user.

As far as I know, there is no real impact to ISO as long as you exercise document control on your MSDS and the MSDS received from your supplier.

ROHS is more critical to the MSDS that you received rather than sent.

I hope that helps
