Learning English - Idiom's and expressions
Post 1 of 7

Hello to all my global friends. I've seen topics posted about people trying to learn english. I know it's hard because there are so many idioms (expressions that aren't literal). I found this reference website to help my cousin who is in the US from Thailand.

There is a lot of good information here. Check it out:

Replying to [Rizzob]:Now I find that there are much different from Britain English and American English, and also there are some other version such India, Philippine, it is quite different by etch other. And as my fist time I learn English I thought that who speak English use the same language. Now I learned that it is different just like different people in China speak the differnt version mandarin.

Here's another resource on American English idioms:

http://www.learnenglishfeelgood.com/americanidioms/index.html

"Why learn idioms?

Because much of everyday speech in almost every language is based on colloquial and slang vocabulary - much of this vocabulary is based on idioms.

Often an idiom does not seem to make sense if taken literally (the meaning of the individual words) - Someone would probably not understand that to be "under the weather" is to be sick.

We have created a list of American English idioms - words and expressions that are used by Americans daily... Learn these idioms and use them! :)

REMEMBER: Although this is a list of American English idioms, we've tried to only include expressions that are used everywhere in the English speaking world. Don't forget that each English speaking country (England, Australia, Canada, etc.) also has its own particular regional idiomatic expressions/ jargon."

Thank you so much, Robby, I appreciate it a lot!

I also hope to learn English well, however, it seems quite difficult to learn oral English... :)

If it is possible, I would like to learn from you in future.
