There are lot of useful infomation regarding ROHS been posted, here is a summary for everyone to know:

  • Rohs is a European Union Standard for electrical devices.  You can get more info about it at: http://www.rohs.gov.uk by Ranger

This is a directive put forth by the European Union which states that from July 1, 2006 new electrical and electronic equipment put on the market does not contain lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) or polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE). Replying to [China Shipper]: The RoHS stands for "the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment". This Directive bans the placing on the EU market of new electrical and electronic equipment containing more than agreed levels of lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) flame retardants.

More info on rohs.co.uk.

Manufacturers need to understand the requirements of the RoHS Directive to ensure that their products, and their components, comply.
