I'm sick of working for someone, trying to get into the industry!~
Post 1 of 25
Greetings people! I'm new here, so I'm going to introduce myself to the community.

I'm a Canton born Chinese who grew up in Los Angeles, US. I'm currently an I.T. professional. Even though the pay is pretty good, I'm sick and tired of working for someone. I need a more flexible lifestyle.

Since I'm fluent in both Cantonese and Mandarin, I'm thinking to get into the business of importing good from China. I'm thinking about Female Handbag and accessories, but I'm still doing my market research, so I'm still open to any product that'll make me a profit.

I'm looking to start as working part time, but eventually quit my work and run this business full time.

Well, if any of you nice people out there can give me some pointers and advices, that would be great! I especially welcome people who started like myself, moving form a professional career to starting their own importing business.

Feel free to contact me.

I don't know whether you would like to engage in this field, but that's not the problem, I'm very pleased to make friends with anyone who are interested in foreign trade. If the chance coming, I will establish business line for myself but not for the current company I'm working!

Hey Street,

Thanks for your post. You gave some VERY good pointers. Yes my strength would be I.T., but in Los Angeles, I feel that the I.T. hardware market is SO saturated and dominated by big suppliers that I have little chance of making a profit. Also, most people in the I.T. industry goes for brand name items, which is hard for me to attain the rights to. But again, I'm open to all opportunities and ideas and I'll never rule out anything. On the positive note, my I.T. background allows me to cut cost in terms of setting up websites and doing online promotions.

The reason why I thought of female hand bags and accessories is because they're products that people (female) are consistantly buying, and they seem to be cheaper and light-weight, so I thought it would be a good idea for a starup like myself. Again, I really don't have any prejudice in terms of what products I should import, as long as they they're what the customers want and I can make a buck. (Legally of course) [em10]

Please keep the comments and suggestions coming, I can use every bit of it.

Thanks.

Thanks for the warning. Yes I'm going to have to give up the perks and comfort of having a stable job, but like the post title says...
