deposit of the order
Post 1 of 8
Dear friends,I need your advice or opion to share :
I got an order from one new customer,it is not a big order, but it's delivery time is at the beginning of November. The customer agreed on the order to pay us 30%deposit before mass production.
But the customer didn't pay us the deposit in several days,so I asked the customer did they pay the deposit to us already? The customer answered me and told me the time is enough to begin mass production from September. But our factory hope we could begin mass production now, although we only need about one month to finish, because the workers are mainly local farmers, they will be busy with harvesting their plants from September, and there will be less workers that time and we will be more busy that time,so I explained all this situation to my customer and hope he could agree to let us begin mass production now.
But my customer answered me angrily,he asked me angrily "You can begin the mass production now,but what do you want!!!!!"Which means why you ask me?Why you email me?
I answered him politely, and I said we can't begin mass production before getting their 30% deposit, but no answer from my customer again.
So I want to know why my customer got so angry? We hope we could begin mass production now and hope the customer could support us since the order was confirmed and it won't bring any loss to my custmer, since the products are plastic materail, which won't change anything after storing one month. What's more,30% deposit is only a small money,it shouldn't be a big problem for the customer.
Or is it possible for the customer to cancel the order please? Then we have to begin mass production after getting the 30%deposit,right?

Seems to me that the customer has budgeted to pay you the Deposit in September, not now. Quite frankly, the customer does not care if the workers are farmers who have to harvest crops. All he cares about is the goods he ordered, when he wants them and when he will pay the deposit.

You have one of 2 options.

1. You take the risk and produce now, and wait for September for the Deposit, or,

2. You try and mass produce after receiving the deposit and try to meet the November deadline.

If 1., then you run the risk that you might manufacture the goods and NOT get the deposit at all, and you are stuck with the goods.

If 2.,then you run the risk of not finishing production in time for November delivery.

grigo has given you 2 options.

Option 1 is not what you can go with, since you have no good cooperation with him yet.
Option 2 to you, is not acceptable to you too, since you will be lack of workers after Septembers.

Your client is right, he has no need to pay you now. But he seems not quite patient as most the CUSTOMERS did, from your view. I thought it could be due to the culture background, misunderstanding and etc., with you, the Chinese. He may not understand why you need to push for the production asap and, he may not have idea about farmers. :)

To you, you should find ways to get the production started as early as possible. While you'd better to think about your clients benefits. Why he have to pay you early than it is needed, even it is a small order to you and a small money to him. To make both of you satisfied, there should be another option:
Option 3. Get back to him to offer a special discount, or waive the sample fee, or pay him the interests for this 30% deposit, and ask him to wire the money to you to start the production as early as possible.

You may try this.
Customer is always correct. Care of their benefits, you will get return.

Replying to [haileyqd]:If you feel comfortable to start production now with less deposit, say 20% or 10%, make a proposal to your new customer accordingly.

why you want to push them so hard?
If so, the client will think you have some problem, means you may cheat him when receiving deposit.
Since the client decided to order some time later, why still forced him to order? don't understand.
Even you told the truth for worker's reason, but did he believe what you said?
What I want to say is to think in client's situation, and don't think more for you than clients.
Good Luck, friend,. be more patitient, orders need time!
