Point of Purchase Displays
Post 1 of 5
As you all are aware there is a ton of different POP displays im just curious from a (retailers) perspective what type is the most effective and acceptable.

Permanent, semi-permanent, floor, shelf or shipping box is POP; Not geared around couture products referring to general merchandise.

I figured this was a good way to get a global perspective. Thanks I hope this is helpful for everyone![em3]

In reality the right way is going to be geared around the products being sold and general layout of any retail shop or store and the mood that the retailer is trying to establish in the mind of the buyer.   I just returned from a 2 week Euro-Asia business trip.  What I found in some of the shops that deal with many articles or items from different manufacturers were touch screens placed throughout the shop or store so that consumers could research or compare similar products or even at times dis-similar products.

Replying to [Ranger]: That makes sense although I think it will be a while until that trend makes it state side.

Touch-screens should be the way to go eventually, but until this becomes familiar to consumers I'd say semi-permanent vertical banners, auto-roll stand banners, or posters etc etc would be acceptable. I've seen some of these interesting hi-tech POP displays in shopping malls in some parts of the world, they're nice to look at being interactive and all, but sadly few people actually seem inclined to use them. I guess it's to do with how receptive consumers are to what kind of displays in any particular area.

Here's an update.  I decided to do a little research through a VAR POS partner and found that Wal-mart has a test market going on in 3 states and 21 stores with this exact approach.  Their tests are being run in the Automotive department, Sporting goods, and Paint/Hardware departments.  So if there testing, IM sure it wont be long until more start doing the same thing and the POS market will really take off with more than touch screen registers and order taking.
