Post 1 of 17
Outdoor furniture constructed with teak wood is a favorite among consumers due to the beauty and durability of the individual pieces. For this reason, a wide variety of outdoor furniture is made using teak ranging from teak Adirondack chairs to classic, formal furnishings.
Teak, a hard strong durable yellowish-brown wood, grows in the region of Southeast Asia and is harvested from the surrounding forests and teak plantations by the locals. The wood of the teak tree is naturally resistant to insects, warping, splintering and the elements, which makes it an ideal wood for creating furniture.

You hit the nail right on the head mentioning teak wood! It really is a beautiful and versatile wood - not only a building material, but also the stock for lots of artwork. Thanks for reminding us! It was about time to forget about plastic!

But I didn't expect anybody to replace each and every plastic item with teak wood. You'll probably agree though that many plastic items look outright primitive, especially if you see them right next to a wood item, and that's what I had in mind.
There are already people in your country (and others, too) who practice "sustainable forestry", and that might bring the beauty of wood back to our homes. Don't worry about the plastic injectors; they still have a lot of work to do.

Teak = Tectona grandis (Latin) =Teca (Spain) =Jati (Indonesia)
In Indonesia, especially Java island, It been planted as Sustainable Plantation by PT Perhutani (en = Indonesian Forestry Company limited ), state own company.Cultivated in Millions hectares, it been exist since the dutch Colonial in 16th Century.
The ancestor of this species was believed came from South America, At that time it was used for making Ship before Steel-Ship era on 19th century.
its weatherproof and heavy duty or durability being proved as by.
In Holland, nowadays premium Teak is only been used as Interior for the Luxurious Boat/yacht.
For Building, mostly as flooring, decking and lamparquette.
Whilst for furniture Outdoor, as Garden, Patio, Poolside, Beach side etc
been started about 15 years ago.
In Indonesia, Java island, Jepara town is the biggest sources of Teak garden furniture. nearly 1 thousand FEU containers per year had been exported from Jepara to worldwide. It ever reach 3000 containers per Year when booming export in 1996 - 1999.
In Indonesia Teak trees also been planted by private sectors (villagers).
but in average these Teak are not as good as the state plantation ones.
even from the plantation, not all area would give us Premium teak.
Only several area at North beach along Java Island that having good teak.
Not more than 10 area from all Indonesian teak plantation could give us the good teak for Premium Teak Garden Furniture.

Teak is derived from South Indian term Thekku. From the Indian west coast it was exported in the ancient times. Massive deforestation has made Indians import teak from East Asia and partly from Africa, much more than local arrival. A blessing in disguise, the demand has made many plantation businesses to go for large scale teak plantation. It will be some decades to see the maturity of these trees. Farmers are also planting in small scale around the cultivable land. We have very old structures with teak wood carvings standing for more than 1-2 centuries.

Cyber Chap,
If you got little time to see my blog about wooden carved Joglo House by Teak in Java,
existing in 16th century, It was the Royal house in Java, read also about topic Rustic in Indonesia.
Indonesia is so called East India by Holland Dutch, having very close culture with India.
Javadwipa for Java and Swarnadwipa for Sumatera are Sanskrit words.
Part of Indonesia in 3th century to 15th century was Hinduism in their religion.
having a lot of Temples for Deva Vishnu, Brahma and Shiva. also Ganesha.
The culture of Pupet shadow of Maha-bharat and Ballet of Ramayana (Sri rama and Shinta) also

I Agre with You Cyber, let us talks about teak.
Tracing the Origin and the spread of Teak,
Although I still not taking an scientific researching,
I have an perception that the spread of this Teak is co-related with
The Expedition to discovery the Hindu=Hindia= Indie=India continents.
My memory comes backward to the pass, when Marcopolo, Amerigo D P, Magelhaens,
C. Columbus were voyage to East world.
The first landing was into America (south America) and they called the tribe as Indian ?
The second loop trip was, they landed into India,
And after India, the third loop trip was into East India ? an Identical name for Indonesia at
western Colonial era.
With that such long journey of voyage, I believe that they need a Hard and waterproof wood,
to repair the Ship, and somehow they found this trees of Teak, in Indian land ( it was from
South America by my opinion). and they kept the sailing to India land, brought the seeds ?
cultivated it in India and then later to Java island,
In Java island in 13th to 16th century, the use of Teak is more for Ship builders than housing.
Along the north beach area, It been planted in 3 centuries ago when Dutch colonial's era.
The use of teak for Palace in Java was in between 15th to 16th century,

The second linkage is the Admiral Zheng He = Ma He = (1405 - 1433) of Ming Dynasty
in era of Empire Yung Le=Yung Lo= Zhu Di
This is 80 years before Columbus and Magellans voyages.
The expedition is covering the area of: Vietnam, Burma, Cambodia, Thailand, Java and Sumatra.
with more than 50 Ships of 27,000 personals, It must need a big ship Docking when landed to.
it said that the logistic are really well managed by, It is include the herbals-ship and the support troops.
and I assume it may be also the link factor of How was Teak been spreading to Asia,
Especially to Java - Indonesia.
In India, it may also possible too, as for the Zheng He " Sam Po Kong " also visit India in that period.
and then to Sumatra, Brunei and Java.
The other reference about the voyage from India to Java,
In one among the reliefs of the Temple of 1000 Budha or Borobudhura, (700 - 800 After Christ )
It was an inscription about a sailing-ship from Madagascar as the Java's ancestor.
This is showing a link of Arya-Clans from India with Java's ancestor.
