Replying to [mattyv]: I completely agree with your comment that Alibaba do nothing to protect potential investors nor do they carry out enough of a company check when companies wish to place themselves on the Alibaba.com website.
I was recently scammed and contacted Customer Services (Barbara), whose only action was to send me a message that she had sent the papers to the company concerned but also commenting that I should not hold my breath. This concerns me in a number of ways:
1. No name or contact email address of the company was given ( I have asked for since but no reply), therefore, did the documents ever get sent.
2. Alibaba did not confirm if they do or do not complete a background check on companies who advertise their companies on Alibaba.com
3. Very little help and assistance (virtually none) is given by Alibaba considering so many people are being scammed and ripped off from THEIR site. Therefore, as you quite rightly say, they are only interested in lining their own pockets and to * with the rest of us.
Perhaps Alibaba should own up and place all of their company details and staff on this site so we can check authenticity!!!
As you have probably gathered, I'm a little bitter at the response from Alibaba.. They have no real interest in promoting good relations between Chine and the rest of the world, just in collecting whatever fee's they may get from whoever.
Enough said, please, be aware, this site has many pitfulls, so make sure you do lots of homework before you agree to purchase anything. If possible, use Escrow but do not pay all monies upfront.
