Replying to [shahid52]: sorry i don't have the resources to go to mali now, but what holds true for Nigeria is sadly true for most west african countries. But ask yourself a few question:

1. How are you sure that the letter you got was really from the bank.
2.How are you sure that the gentleman you spoke to was not a scammer posing as a bank official

My suggestion: contact the Malian commission in your country and ask them to assist you in verification. Even after they say it is true, request a formal letter from them so that you know who to sue if things go wrong, although embassies normally have immunity they may not want the negative publicity that may be generated by such a snafu

Replying to [Honest Nigerian]: Dear Sir, I would like to thank you for your incite into Nigeria, i have been dealing in Nigeria now for some 7 years, and even though there are young men who think that businessmen world wide will pay money for a non exsistent contract, its easy just pick up the phone to whom ever the contract is with and ask, I have dealt for years, and my clients are all told I dont pay any money upfront, I will check if you are true, and all invoices are locked I have had many a transaction, and as a businessman it is a very good market for exporter. You just need to be proffessional and not greedy.
