When in China importing procedures
Post 1 of 6
[em7]
I have looked over the forum and have not found a topic solely on "Importing from China to the USA when in China"

We have been to China before and we have made small purchases but now we are ready to make a big purchase but we are going there to do this in person so we can check the quality and assure shipment. We will be shipping FOB via TNT .

My question is how do we make paymens to a company (we do not know which we will be buying from until we get there and it may be multiple sellers) safely and securely?

What would be the step by step procedure?

Letter of Credit seems easy until the point where it is involving multiple sellers- we do not know how much we will be spending and which seller we will buy from.

I do greatly appreciate serious answers and Thank you in advance!

While talking about the terms of payment, there are several ways to slove the issue in China. However, it's better for you to select a qualified supplier first when importing from China.

Sourcing a qualified supplier is not too easy for the foreign buyers as there are countless similar manufacturers in China, esp the quality control seems a big problem too.

Hence, the best way to solve this issue is to employ a local part-time or full time sourcing or purchasing representative to protect your interests in China. He can solve all the problems concerning import and export in China, including price negotiation, sourcing products and qualified factories, insurance, customs, shipping, logistics etc...

I used to be a sourcing manager for several foreign companies, if you're interested, please contact me for details.

You approach your Bank and get a approval or limit sanction for import of product ( say limit 1 million dollar)

As soon as you land in china and finish the deal, you give the full details of the deal and give the LC opg form to your Bankers ( via courier or scanned documents or through your authorised persons in USA). They willget the details and open the LC to the suppliers bank. You can sit their inspect and ship the goods and return from there.

But to the ebst of my knowledge, even though the communications has developed so much " All the Banks operating inside America" are not cooperating and working very fast. this is because there is no experienced man-power

there are so many other methods also

I coudn't agree more than the above.

I am making some supplements.

I don't know what freight you can get from TNT...

Normally, TNT is the cheapest one among DHL, Fedex, UPS...

For your reference, I get the good discount from DHL, from China to US, each kg, is USD5.5 to 6.5 if the parcel is over 75kgs....(the exact price is according to the fuel charge of that month)

As I need to send a lot of items to my clients every week, I signed the agreement with my local DHL and ems, and get the good prices from them.

By the way, I also offer my agency service, such as investigate, coordinate, and inspect, and combine orders and transportation.

You can refer to my previous post if you are interested.

If any thing I can do to help, feel free to let me know.

Wish you make good business with China!

So If you want to buy goods in big quantity, as you are saying big qty's it can't ship by TNT or UPS.
You ask factories to offer you FOB Price & CIF (Your Port) Price..
you check..
In China if your are importing products from china, you don't have to do anything, only make agreements on price, shipment, delivery..
Bcaz all local documents, custom clearance factory or suppliers do that..

For Payment terms, you can do t/t, L/c at sight..
