Database about building and building materials
Post 1 of 15
Little by little our friend Usama is putting together a lot of useful information. That made this famous "light bulb" light up in my brain and I was thinking, "why not create a whole database regarding building?"

My guess is that (almost) everybody who is interested in building also has some kind of specific knowledge about one subject or the other, or in the worst case he occasionally finds something on the internet.

Maybe Alibaba won't or can't grant us the space to put this database on their computers, but in the worst case we could use a "public" website for that purpose. There are enough people among us who know how to do that.

I personally wrote an introducing paper about pozzolans (though admittedly it needs some updating) and could find a lot more stuff. And one of the reasons I didn't post it so far is that most of it is too long to fit in a post.

So, what do you guys think, should we tackle this little project? I have the feeling it would be useful for all of us in the moment less expected.

One more detail: as some people always wait on others to do the job for them, while still others don't want to cooperate because of these lazy guys, everybody who wants to make use of this database would have to contribute first. - How does that sound for fairness?

Thank you for your interest! [em19] For the moment the best thing to do would be thinking about topics you know pretty well (like for example what you are selling in your business), organize your thoughts regarding this subject, and then write it down - as a computer file of course.

Soon we should have a moderator for this forum, and he could arrange the technical side with Alibaba. If they can't or don't want to help us, there are many computer specialists in the forum who know how to set up a database and put it on a free website.

For the moment, all we need are contributions. There are many people in this forum who have already shown that they have specific knowledge about a subject, and they need to write what they know.

If their English isn't very good, no problem! As long as they know their subject and can put their ideas in order, I can help correcting the text. Though of course also here help is welcome. [em1]

As the articles written by different authors would be sent to somebody for review (including grammar, etc.), and only authorized persons can post to the database, there is no danger of spam.

Now we need articles! What is your special knowledge? [em1]

Yeah! [em19] That's exactly the kind of reaction/offer I was waiting for! I know that some of these things do have a lot of potential, but I only rely on my bad memory when it comes to talking about them.

As I just explained to Geoffrey, many years ago I put together a low-cost housing project myself, but had to leave the country, and therefore it didn't materialize. Also I lost all the information I had gathered, and that happened again some years ago. So I do have a general idea, but lack many specifics.

That's why many times I just know enough to ask questions and propose discussions about certain subjects I _seem_ to know very well, but my "knowledge" is quite limited in reality. So if you could find info (or write it up yourself) and post it here, many of us would appreciate a lot.

That is quite a good suggestion!

Quite wonderful, man!

[em19]

Now that we have the idea, and have some specialist, why not
have a try?

You never know what would happen, unless you try, right?

Yeah, since we are engaged with the stone manufacture for many years, and we know some knowledge about vanity top, pre-cut worktop, kitchen top, slabs & tiles, tombstones, decorative wall and floor stone, architecture, and some other stone products.

If there is anything we can do, please do not hesitate to contact us at: granitesell3@hotmail.com (MSN) and sophia9507 (skype) , and of course, trade manager is ok, too.

We are ready to help at any time, and hope we can contribute to the development of this database about building and building materials.

Best regards,
Sophia
