Hong Kong - On July 13, Alibaba.com held the e-Businessmen of the year 2007 award ceremony in Hong Kong. The ceremony brought together over 200 people including partners, leading media, winners and Alibaba members.
Entrepreneurs in Hong Kong dominated the international category of this year’s e-Businessmen of the Year awards, taking nine out of the 10 winning places at the award ceremony. This annual contest recognizes the credibility, achievement, social responsibility and innovation among entrepreneurs using the Internet as a tool to do business.
Porter Erisman, Alibaba.com Vice President of Corporate Affairs and keynote speaker at the award ceremony, said, “This year’s international winners inspire us to think about what is possible on the Internet. Alibaba.com and our peers have created efficient and trustworthy global marketplaces, but what really drives the development of e-commerce is the people who trade online with success and enthusiasm and who push the limits of creativity, like those who we are recognizing today.”
The contest judges were David Wei, President of Alibaba.com, Justin Yue, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of Tradelink Electronic Commerce Limited, Alex Fong, Chief Executive Officer of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, and Ali F. Farhoomand, a Professor at the University of Hong Kong’s School of Business and Director of the Asia Case Research Centre.
The judges’ evaluations made up 60% of the scoring and an online poll 40%. The 10 winners in the e-Businessmen of the Year international section will go into the final round of judging, competing against the winners from the Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Hangzhou and Shanghai contest regions.
"Alibaba Trade Manager has enabled us to complete many successful deals. One unforgettable deal was with a
client who ordered 10000 pcs USB Flash Drives with a 4-day delivery cycle. Using our ERP and efficient production line, we reallocated resource to this deal and we delivered the goods on time. In 2005, we were a 4-employee company; in 2007 our staffs grew to over 300 people. Our sales have increased 10 fold from 2005, and this has mainly been because of the Internet."
Grady Yu , CEO, Starline International Group Ltd.

"There are too many online successful deals to talk about. Nearly all our sourcing originates from Alibaba! We have around 400 clients with over 200 loyal clients; they include Reebok, NBA teams, MLB teams, Jeep, Fox Entertainment, Pfizer, Universal, Boeing, and Revlon. Bamko grew from a small local distributor in 1 office to an international distributor with 50 employees in 8 offices worldwide with the adoption of Internet."
