Shipping from 2 manufacturers on one container
Post 1 of 15
Hi,
I am trying to combine 2 shipments to make a full container with both manufacturers on the mainland in China to ship overseas. My plan is to have one manufacturer ship their part of the shipment to the other manufacturer to have them loaded together onto the container. The receiving manufacturer believes they have to purchase the first order and incur a VAT tax on the shipment. Is this true? Can I just have 2 sets of export documents from each manufacturer and have the ocean freight company combine them into one bill of lading? Is there any special paperwork I need to be aware of?
Help.... Thanks!

Your plan can be done. The receiving manufacturer doesn't need to buy the goods of the other manufacturer. No VAT will incur. Ask your supplier to check again. Or maybe ask the other supplier to have all the goods combined and loaded in his place.

Two manufacturer and one buyer:
separate invoices and separate B/L necessary: the shipping company will issue separate B/L: but you can negotiate for one container load and one buyer: so the shipping charge may be divided by 2 mfrs according to their stuffing: But for customs purposes, paymnet ( remittance of FX) and clearing etc need separate invocie from 2 suppliers: Otherwise out the tow, one can invoice all in his name and pay to the other:

1) I assume that pricing tems is FOB. If terms is CIF or CNF, you have no right to request the same. Or you must agree to pay the difference if necessary
2) You should check the port of custom clearance of two factories. Are they clearing cargo at the same port? If not, it may be a problem to combine cargo.
3) If terms is FOB & port of clearance is the same for two factories, then you may assign a shipping company to help you to combine 2 lots of cargo together into a container.
4) I do not suggest to ask either 1 factory to send cargo to another. becuase arguement may occur, such as short ship or damaging.

We share pretty often containers with other suppliers. Meaning, we produce soaps and clients get their accessories like soap dishes from a different manufacturer. The other manufacturer sits in CA, we are in PA (both USA), so what we do is, we ship to the same port for the dispatch Depending which way is cheaper. However, none of us touches the merchandise of the other. We have simply the forwarder handle that for us. They receive also all the documents from each company seperate for the merchandise.
It becomes difficult when we deal with CFI, then we have to contact the forwarder and the other company so everyone just pays their share.

Hi,there is two possibilities:
1.If they make different products,then:if the mfs need to get drawback,it's difficult to make the two factory ship together,and what one of the mfs told you is true;if they don't need drawback,don't ask one send to another,just point a forwarder and ask both of them send the goods to the forwarder's warehouse;
2.Another possibility is if they make same products, ask one of them send goods to another who need drawback, the later take responsable for clearance, but the bad is that if both of them need drawback?
The best solution is asking both of them send the goods to your forwarder's warehouse, they send the PL and CI to the forwarder and forwarder arrange clearance and B/L.

You can have your freight forwarder combine the shipments at their warehouse facility in case you do not want the shippers to know you are purchasing from both, but this will cost extra as a 3rd party warehouse will be doing the loading for you.

You can send products from two manufactrues. But the B/L will be issue two from two manufacturers.Because two companies cannot send products in one container with one B/L. For this purpose Shipping company will issue two B/L. And the invoices will be provided from two manufacturer. as regards of shipping bill the shipping agency will issue bill in one page of both. For custom clearance process they will need two B/L and invoices.
