It is difficult to learn about things that you want to do unless you are actually doing them. You have atleast two paths to walk on. One is to take an entry level job in a trading company or any kind of sales/marketing company, remember to really think what you are doing and thereby learn. Another way is to start a company, it is usually such a lengthy process if done for the first time without prior experience that if you get it going, you will probably manage to make some trade too.

Replying to [new_to_new_world]: In my opinion, the most important thing doing business in a market is to get yourself acquainted with it first. After that, step by step you will learn what you need to acquire. Because you are planning to imp & exp from Pakistan, I have no chance to be your helper. But if one day you would like to do it with China market, just send me a message:

Firstly, I would like to tell you the experience of my boss from USA: he is one that very agressive and always ready to find new chances-new supplier, new employees, new business......when he started purchasing from China, he is almost know nothing about this country. However, after one year's struggle, our business is becoming better and better.
Here is my suggestions FYI only:
1. start from the industry that you are familiar with.
2. In china, being a client can always have priority during negotiation, so, when you buy products, there is no afraid of making mistakes-the supplier will forgive you. I have no idea of other countires, maybe something like in china.
3. find someone in the supplier's country to help you-pay high salary to find good ones and if he/she is qualified, he/she will bring you more beyond what you pay. Otherwise, find another one!
4. prepare a business trip to the suppliers (better find several suppliers and let them compete) and talk with them seriously.
All the best!

There are two very distinctive entry-level paths that you can take. One is freight handling companies, where you will see how goods flow in international trade. Other is any commission based sales job, you need both skills to be successful trader.
