Replying to [int786]:Clean on board, meaning that the goods are really shipped on board from quay without any damages.
on the bill of lading named clean on board that trully the goods are loaded, otherwise they can not give a bill of lading for real shipment. a lot of forwarders agents give a bill of lading on a certain date but can be shipped days lateron, then they give the bill of lading only as receipted for shipment, and you are not sure that it is really shipped on board, when this is as clean on board bill of lading the shipping line or the freightforwarder is responsible for shipment done.

It is a Bill of Lading which implies that the consignment received on board a vessel is free of any defects in packing such as breakage, spillage, leakage, loose packing etc. In other words the packing (whether drums, bottles, cartons, wooden boxes) is in good condition.

CLEAN ON BOARD or FREE ON BOARD [FOB] is INCOTERMS 2000 as Per ICC where risk of loss and damage of cargo transfer from Exporter to Importer. In this case of FOB, the risk of loss or damage responsibility transfer from seller to buyer loaded on ship. The cost of loading goods is on seller. Freight, insurance etc. on buyer's account.
Important to note that this term is to transfer responsibility of one party [seller] to other party [buyer]. This is not ownership transfer term. The ownership of good transfer as per agreement and payment clause. Generally after realisation of payment.
You can view other INCOTERMS on ICC [International Chamber of Commerce] website as generally mentioned C, D, E, F Group. You can view

Replying to [int786]: Clean on board is a technical term that's usually aplied to BIll of Lading and it's common request for Letters of Credit to mention it. Basically it means that the Bill of Lading or Ocean Bill of Lading must not have any notations issued by the shipping line, the vessel's master or their agents. Things like (shipped on deck; showing damages, etc) . The B/l must be without any saveguards from the issuing entity
