Hi, thank you in advance for any of your time. I've gotten a few quotes on different items and then I've looked up the price that these kinds of items have sold for on Ebay. I just have to say that I'm a little surprised. A few items, i.e. some portable dvd players have sold for less on Ebay than what I can import them for and forget about having a wholesale lot price. Is it that Ebay just isn't a good market to sell in or are those sellers better at getting prices?

Replying to [starlight786]: believe me, there are no wonders. A factory price is a factory price, e-bay sellers can offer better prices only if you take their shipping (you end up with the same final amount) or you will get simply cheated. If you really want to make serious business, forget e-bay. It is full of fraudsters (just like Alibaba or anything where it smells like money).

I've seen many examples of what he's talking about. In particular, there's an item I want to import and the best price I've found from a reputable supplier is $320. When I'm done with shipping and taxes, I'll be paying $390 per unit.

The exact item is selling on ebay right now for as low as $202 plus $30 shipping.

Another thing to note is that it was many hours of work to sift through the suppliers who replied, and determine which ones were reliable. The ebay deal I mention above took me about 5 minutes to find.

Obviously, there's something missing from the equation I'm using. But what?

Lots of products on eBay are fake and copies. There is barely 15% of electronics on eBay that are the real thing. They are pretty much all replica's.

People like me sell things both on ebay...and simply locally by using www.rochester.craigslist.org it has free posting...and is great concept over all.

The item I was referring to was a brand name mobile phone. The ebay seller had strong positive feedback, so apparently, if he's sold someone a fake they don't know it.

I've seen a few copies, none of which I think would fool anyone who has ever held the real thing in their hands. Has the quality of imitations improved that much? Have they improved enough that the seller may have been fooled as well?

I'm perfectly fine with writing off deals that are 'too good to be true' as fakes, but this sort of thing raises doubts for me... leaves me wondering if I should have held out for a better deal.

Those cell phones on eBay are almost all OEM's. A average person wouldn't be able to tell if the phone is authentic or an oem. Most of the OEM cell phones built, are exact replica's of the real thing.
