Some are, some not. It has a lot to do with the country you are purchasing from and their regulations. Some companies are taking care of the enviroment, because they want to.

I have seen competitiors who dump their "bad batches" just down the drain instead of discharging them correctly. (Cosmetic industry) Just because it was too expensive. [em6]

Contact local organisations and find out what questions to ask for your industry.

Suggestions on subjects for Cosmetics (my industry):
Animal testing
Non-toxic ingredients
Hypo-allergenic
Biodegradable
Type of Dyes and fragrances Fragrances
Petroleum fillers
Optical Brighteners used
Phosphates
Chlorine
Ammonia
Hydrocarbons
Formaldehyde
Kerosene
Ethyl Cellosolve
Masking Agents
Fillers
Discharge of spills, bad batches, etc.

Hope that helps you.

Industry has the ability to be environmentally friendly, but the costs would be astronomical and the price of the products being produced would become so high that nobody could afford them.

This is why products made in the US are so expensive, becuase the EPA imposes regulations on filtering, and disposal, etc., etc., that cost the companies a great deal to implement. In most cases it is less expensive to pay the fine for violating the regulation than it is to put the proper procedures in place to be compliant.

So, yes, industry can become environmentally friendly, but we are all too greedy to let it happen.

Replying to [mama bebe]:Dear Mama Bebe,I request you to consider what is more harmful, natural or synthetic product?
Consider example of PENCIL.
Pencils made from woood will require a lot of trees being cut but will not lead to much of pollution.
But Plastic pens will release lot of polluting chemicals.
Now consider this.
If no plastic writing material was ever used, there might be no trees standing on earth today, for making pencils.
Industry, is a non-natural way of putting to use the different material given to us by nature.Environment is natural way of things to happen.Hence industry will always be anti-nature.

Replying to [mama bebe]: Industry is always harmful because of the waste by-products they emit to the environment. Legal moves have been done and regulatory rules have been formulated. Industry owners should stick to these rules. Older production technologies should be replaced with newer technologies which are more environment friendly. Due to demand from ever-expanding consumers, we cannot do away with the expanding industries. The only way is to be concerned about the environment and follow the rules being imposed.
