I am fed u with some chinese manufacturers

I am fed up with some manufacturers:
I am doing business in UAE. Recently I got an enquiry for Aluminium doors & windows. The quantity is huge: more than 2000 housing units are coming up. Each house need on an average 4 windows and 2 aluminium doors. Rest of the doors would be wooden.
I contacted more than 10 chinese manufacturers and out of them I selected two. One of them claimed as a regular supplier to KFC and the other one claimed that they are regularly sending to UK.
I collected all the AutoCAD drawings, specifications and all minute details from the construction group and sent to them. It happened on 9th August and the last date for submitting the quote was 12th. However, I managed to extend the date uotp 15th of August.
But after getting the details they said many excuses such as the doors are not of their standard size... . One manufacturer finally quoted - only for 45 doors. Look the quantity.
The second manufacturer is still silent
From the same construction group another enquiry I got is for the Kitchen cabinets for the 2000 units. To them also I sent all the files. Today morning one of them told me that they were not able to open the files. The other comany is still silent
So, believing uon them I lost my business and credibility. I dont know why these people are behaving so.
China is famous for its bulk production technologies and low prices. But what is the use of all these if resonse is very poor ?

you should value your vendor before you make decision.
And for some kind of manufacturer are not skilled to provide professional international business service.
You'd better try to find out a good agent first. you can contact your friend who have agent in China and ask him/her to manage your project.
Hope above helps.

Yes, I evaluated them by myself. But, how could I think that a manufacturer sulying regularly to KFC would do like this?
What is the difference if I am going for an agent? I dont know that part. Plz give me information how does an agent work for me without fail and how could I get a best agent: Agents also could behave like this no?

Manian,
Firstly, are you in this business? If you are, I am surprised that you do not have your supply chain in place.
Even though the Internet has greatly enhanced our abilities to contact businesses across the world, it is not as simple as contacting them, negotiating, placing orders and buying from them.
It takes a while to have a reliable supply chain in place. If I were dealing in such quantities on a regular basis, I would actually visit the relevant manufacturers, establish a relationship, begin with a small order and gradually increase the order sizes. Therefore, I am surprised that you placed a large order with unknown suppliers and risked your credibility.
Regards,

hi man
i think there is one answer can be responsible for yr question. if u contact with manufacturer directly it is much more difficult compared with deal with trade company cos in factory not too many traders can master English very well. that will reduce their productivity

Hi, Manian, sorry for so late reply.
Seriously, for your problem, I told you that you should find a agent first, cause they can help you to control the quality and lead time and communication etc.
As far as I knew in import and export area, few manufacturer has enough skill and service to deal with international business. they can not face the business seriously, most of them wanna get inquiry first, they will quote you as well, but not seriously, if you confirmed the price, then they start to studying your project, hence you may meet trouble from now on.
How to find an agent, try join show, meet the supplier face to face, talk with them. Most of the reliable companies take part in diffrent show over all the world, you might visite any one close to your city.
or, you can choose one supplier who worked with you for several orders ask him or her to be your agent. most likely , they would like to help you to work out your future order by commission or reasonable profit.
It my personal experience, Most of my customers like to ask me to find supplier for them after we deal few orders. I think that;s the way to build up relationship and trust each other.
hope it is useful.

I just want to ask you one question : You sure you havent a bit of responsibility in this business ????
yes , compare to the other suppliers , the chinese goods is cheap , but like others we also have a deadline , if the price of you expect is lower than the deadline , only the scamer is waiting for you !

It is you yourself who ruined your own business!
I agree on some of the comments above.
China is a manufacturing base on the globe at present. However, there are not so many qualified talents ( I mean the skiled and well experienced foreign trade salesman in China). Some of the salesman do not know terminology in some special fields, also some engineers know nothing about English and international standards. There are too many manufacturers in each industry and the competition is fierce enough between them. For most of the buyers, esp for large orders, you'd better find a local sourcing or purchasing agent or representative to protect your interests in China.
Do not be fed up with Chinese manufacturers! China is a big market for every businessman worldwide! Welcome to China!

Welcome to the world of dealing with Chinese business. It is very frustrating. They take forever to give you a quote. Maybe send one shipment of good quality and then it is downhill from there. They are ONLY interested in your first order. They don't understand long term relationships.

Sailr,
I would have to disagree with you there. I deal with two businesses in China currently and have had no problems with them. Quotes are quick and to the point. Luckily for me their English is more than passable. AND they care more about that ever so important first order. They want your repeat business. Further, they don't want their (company) names drug through the mud any more than you or I would want ours muddied. No, not ALL Chinese suppliers can be fit into that box. Best idea is to get a Chinese sourcing agent (one you can trust) or use word of mouth (not common, I know -- especially in electronics).
