Hello,
I wil be importing diaries, photo albums, tshirts, etc. The quantities will be fairly small, lets say 500 of each.
So I do not want to deal with brokers, customs, freight containers, etc. I just want the company in China to ship me my boxes of goods to my house. So, my question is:
Should i open up an account with Fed Ex, DHL, UPS? Which company is cheapest. What is an average cost for door to door service? And what is the added fee to do the customs clearing?

Generally, FedEx and UPS are more expensive than DHL for shipping from China to the US. But it depends on your negotiation skills for the contract signed with them. Some companies can get 40%, even 50% discount for the freight charges. FedEx and UPS offer overnight delivery from big cities like Shanghai/Beijing/Guangzhou to the US, as these two express giants are American companies. But DHL offers cheaper price on European destination delivery. I find DHL also deliver goods to US in 3 working days sometimes.

The average cost and customs clearing fees varied depends on your goods and destination location.

So, it's hard to say which one is the cheapest. You have to talk to your local courier office and negotiate a good price term. Service and commitment are also the important factors during the delivery process.

Replying to [allie]:A basic rule of thumb I use:

If the total weight of the items are under 100kg --- Use air freight

If the total weight of the items are above 100kg -- Use Sea Freight

That is just a basic formula, use your best judgement. Good luck

the cheapest, may not necessarily be the cheapest in the end .it is strictly a matter of which one get s the products to you quicker.fedex ,dhl and ups all handles customs ,d uties taxes for you and it is added to your bill.personally, ups gets the job done for me .they are my first choice  to have my products shipped to my door .hope that answers your question.

ems is cheaper and recently tnt express has stepped up in the game.ems is good if you wait about a week more .tnt express is about a  day or two behind fedex, dhl and ups and a little cheaper.

I use TNT Economy Express. The stated delivery time is 10 days. In actual performance, it is usually 3 to 5 days.  TNT Economy Express is about 40 to 60% of the cost of UPS, DHL or FedEx.

The minimum charge starts around $53, so EMS is better for smaller shipments.

Hi, allie.

This is jamine, a China sourcing agency.

1) we have an account with dhl and send a lot monthly. We get the agreement price with them, which is about 35% discount off from their public price.

2) another important information for you, the unit shipping cost is lower if the shipment is heaiver. We can help you to collect the goods from your different suppliers together. This will help you to get the cheaper price for each kilogram.

3) If you ship via courier, and the shipment declaration is low value, normally there is no extra cost there.

I have the rich working experiences on shipping field, welcome to contact me.
