Do you like people from the USA?
Post 1 of 34
I have lots of contacts from the US, and I have to admit that most yankees are rude, cocky, and self-glorifying.

In a contrast, I find most Canadians are humble and kind.

What is your point of view? [em36]

To say that most yankees are rude, cocky and self-glorifying is a generalization don't you think? The US has over 298 million people and it's share of rude / cocky / self-glorifying people, just like any large population. Also your population basis for your generalization is in the industry of wholesale importers & buyers. Thats not a fair represenation of the American people as a whole. The argument is not valid. For you to say that most Americans are rude, cocky and self-glorifying is like saying most of Africa consists of only scammers and lacks hard working ethical people. Just because you got one bad apple, doesn't mean you have to throw out the whole barrel.
(I hate being called a yankee, I'm from TEXAS!![em22])

Just my 2 cents,
Robby

Cheebies,

I think that Rizzob put it best.  I am from the US and I can say that we do have our fair share of rude, cocky and self-glorifying individuals.  I'd say that we have the same representation of those people as every other country on this planet.  Please don't over-generalize.  As Rizzob said, that would be like calling all Nigerians (or people from the African continent), scammers.  Which I can assure you is not the case.

Oh yes... Rizzob was right.  Calling the lower half of the states Yankees is kinda insulting to them.  This dates back to the American civil war.  The mojority of the southern US was part of the Confederate States (Including Rizzob's Texas - the Lone Star state).  Texas was it's own country from 1836 to 1845 when it was admitted to the US as a member state.  In February of 1861 Texas seceded from the US and in March it joined the Confederate States of America.  After the civil war was over, Texas became a US state again, as did the other southern states.  Northerners were referred to as "yankees" by the southerners and I believe that this still holds true today.

LOL... sorry for the history lesson.  While I am aware that the rest of the world calls us Yankees, I think for the most part, most of us don't mind being called Americans (as opposed to yanks or yankees).  [em3]

Just my thoughts

Replying to [cbeebies]:[em6]Dear cheebies
I think you over step the line, when you start call that most (yankees) American names just because you have bab experience with one or two customers of your. To be honest, I'm not born American, but this is now my country and I vow to protecting it and it people. So I can say that, "I'm an American", and you just insult a lot of us "American"

You just make yourself a big target for all you so call Yankees to not doing any business with you as of now, and I hope none of your previous Yankee customers read this post, because if I was your customer, I would call up your boss and demand a public appolozise for you hot head mistake by calling people names.[em4][em5][em6]

Breathe in, breathe out. Now slowly count to 10...Relax!
No need to threaten Cheebies about her job etc. She was just expressing her opinion.
Also remember: America may have 298 Million people. However if I meet in a span of 1 month 10 Americans, and 9 of them are rude, obnoxious etc, then as biased as my opinion may be, I might say most Americans are rude, obnoxious etc I suspect that's what happened to Cheebies.

Another thing, partsman: Your adopted country is big on freedom of speech, self-expression etc. Let the woman speak her mind!

My opinion? Well, Most Americans are really great people. Few bad apples no doubt, but that's the nature of man. As Cheebies continues, she will soon get to know more and more wonderful Americans.[em20]

I'm a tolerant and understanding person, I grew up in mixed cultures. My mother is from Thailand, my father from Austria, both immigrants to the US who struggled to survive. As for me? I just believe with a few small variences, the world population is basically the same. We all want and need the same things.

If everyone would remember the golden rule, wouldn't the world be a better place? It's so simple, so true.

Well, Robby, you came from the same state as GWB? No wonder you're so glib.[em19]

Did you realize that there are 1.3+ billion people in China, and not all of the Chinese don't like oeple from the US? Most likely, according to a random poll, three out of four Chinese like you guys.

I put up a public persona when I express my opinions here. But I am not ready for your guys ganging up to go scathed me. I simply want to know others opinions.

BTW, American is not just relating to the US, but also relating to Canada, South America, the West Indies, or the Western Hemisphere. [em4]
