What to do if a manufacturer dont respond after getting the details?
Post 1 of 14
I am doing sourcing. When I got an enquiry, I sent it to the manufacturer in China. I made a talk with them through the Trade manager and got the email id to send the attachments. But there was no response from them. Again I spoke to them and they confirmed that they got the mail and is processing my enquiry. This happened on 10th July. Still now I did not get any offer from them. Since I believed in their words, I did not send enquiry to any other companies.
I tried to contact them through Trade Manager many times now. But nobody is responding. By this time the customer informed me that the last date for submission is over.
What to do with such manufacturers? I believe in ethics and hence normally, once I make a relationship with somebody, I will not go for others for the same product. I feel I was wrong.

It seems like they're not treating you with respect. Is this company your long-term supplier? How is the relationship between you guys?
I would go for someone else asap. How could you rely on them for rush orders or urgent matters if they can't even reply to your enquiry in a timely matter?

It is not unusual that some Chinese factories response in a slow way. Maybe they're too busy at that moment, maybe they thought your potential order was too small, or maybe the guy in charges of your business was not fluent in English...there are lots of reasons.
Sometimes, it costs even more time for our local Chinese to call these ignorant factories.
So, be patient! and keep up pushing them to reply you, or switch to other factories!

Replying to [Manian]: I suggest you send a mail informing the supplier that if you don't reply by a date. You WILL contact other supplier.
It wil be fair then, isn't? And on your side, you need to keep your customer happy too. :)

Replying to [Manian]:Hi, everyone, just as someone mentioned, it is unusual for the chinese suppliers not to give your reply timely, everybody knows how difficult to find a buyer and to start business with them. in this case, i think you can ask for another supplier when you did not received his reply within two days. As i think if you are serious, most suppliers can give you offer within todays as we always do. Good luck and enjoy your day! ---------Sandy

This is exactly what I have done, and it seems to be getting their attentions.
I did use Alibaba to source other manufacturers and suppliers, and I openly told them which company I was also talking to. It stimulated them to do several things
:
1) answer my emails promptly without excuses.
2) apologise for poor performance to that date.
3) ask for time to re-organize their resources.
4) Promise better communications in the future
5) adjusted their shipping times and prices
Much the same as what is happening here in North America, there is a stress load on the work force, companies cannot keep up with the demand for their product, so I give them credit for trying to keep relationships happening in the business area, but I will not give excuse for poor personal performance on the part of a single agent or representative, and frequently I have emailed them my displeasure on their performance to every single email I could find within their company sales, shipping/recieving/ accounting ( Whatever)
eg: I am still waiting 57 days today for a bill of lading and shipping dates for a purchase out of China that was paid in full including shipping. I am needing this equipment for startup of a recent expansion and is now over 45 days late in reciving the equipment. I have lost a lot of money as a result of these delays, ( apparantly a typhoon) that nobody told the me about.
Cheers.. Tim

Tim, you may have been swindled by the Chinese supplier. There is no reason that no B/L provided after 57 days.
You have to talk to the Chinese supplier's management without further delay.

When we advertise our products in some websites,it has already existed the responsibility to respond any enquiry, that is my opinion at least.
