L/C from Nigeria
Post 1 of 7
I got one L/C from Nigeria bank and it is confirmed by one European bank.

We have not experience on business with Nigeria.

Could some one give me some experience on L/C operation with Nigeria bank? Can we trust the bank?

Replying to [Bluwat]: Iam wondering if this will be a new kind of scam, since many people have received false checks an so on why not a L/C

Members, you have to confirm everything.  Yes letters of credit can be faked.  As with any part of the research of your deal. Always check the confiming banks confirmation.  The best way to do this is to Contact the Headquarters of the bank not with a branch office.  The best way is to get the number via the Country's Commerce Website.

Best regards,

Ranger

Replying to [Bluwat]:NIGERIA -- they can get your goods & cancel the L/C then what are you going to do ? They will take the goods & cancel your L/C then you lose the goods / freight / time & money. So, only do T/T business with them. If they do not agree then sell it as stock rather than selling to NIGERIA. Offer the stock to others & make less money.

I agree with Ranger. You have to do your own due diligence in every instance. I would only suggest that the LC should be confirmed by a bank in your city, a bank that you know and are comfortable with. This is because the LC is from Nigeria - which (unfortunately) has earned bad reputaion for themselves, being confirmed by a bank you do not know anything about.. It could be a double whammy!
