But a lot of scam comes out from Nigeria and some of them are regarding scrap metal, one of the most used is the "Nigerian used rail scam"

I have seen about 10 different version of this scam in the past 2-3 years, I think the latest one was about 4-5 months ago,

I know its too late to offer this but. I do always involve my countries Foreign Trade Representatives to verify the legitimacy of the Selling Company. More than once they have helped me avoid costly mistakes by verifying that the company wanting to Export Rails and or HMS 1&2 is NON-EXISTENT. When working with these types of unbelievable prices from supposed sellers, confront them by telling them you will have your countries Trade Rep Involved. If they are for real there is no problem but I have yet to find one that is real as they all run away and stop responding to my e-mails to continue the purchase. I hope this helps.

Also beware of people from Nigeria, Ghana, Ivorycoast . Some tips to avoid scammers

1) Do not pay in advance before you see the supply
2) Have a 3rd party like sgs to verify the supplier
3) Never pay by western union or any wire transfer
4) Do not respond if any one offers scrap metal for 100$ / ton when the actual rate is 210$/ton
5) Have a bank or 3rd party mediate the deal

We have got cases where the African scammers have even produced forged BL's and got money from the buyers. Its a best practise always to have their background checked. We at recycleinme.com are not featuring any suppliers from Nigeria now. Also we have a list of emails of scammers and the scam proposals which help us to eliminate the scams to some extent..

Replying to [sixer]: Thank you Sixer and it is the greed of the buyers by which they loose the money. The cheaters offer scrap at less than 50% of the market rates and buyers fall for that eventually losing the money..

I have started a blog on this and will post the scam offers as and when we receive them at our portal..

You can visit it at http://killscam.blogspot.com/

Dear Guna,

Scrap at 50% of market rate should be good reason to stay away from them.
