HI .NO ITS NOT RISKY .IT IS ALSO KNOWN AS TO PAY METHOD.THE SUPPLIER WILL SEND MATERIAL AND THE FORWARDING COMPANY WILL CONTACT YOU WITH DOCS TO SHOW THAT MATERIAL HAS REACHED.AND THEN YOU PAY AND THE CONSIGNMENT WILL BE HANDED OVER TO YOU.SAFE FOR BOTH CONSIGNOR AND CONSIGNEE

No,it is risky. If supplier loaded some other things in the container and forwarding companies actually is not able to know what is the exact commodity in it.So if so consignee pay after cash it is risky.
I am a forward in Shenzhen,China.I always suggest customers not take this kind of payment method.
Hope all my good friends do secure work!

Hi,

Regards,
Rchas, I can see what you mean by similar but seller still assumes all the risk. Also what carriers do this type of transaction? I have yet to find one that says they would. Maybe for an additional fee someone would.
Best regards,

".....what carriers do this type of transaction?..."
Ranger,
Banks are involved in D/P and not carriers. Basically, the seller sends the invoice, B/L and all the relevant documents to an agreed upon bank. Usually, this is the buyer's bank.
Buyer agrees to pay as per the terms and the bank releases the documents with which the buyer can take delivery of the goods from the shipping company.
D/P sight means that the buyer first pays the bank and is then given the documents. D/P x days means that the buyer has to pay after x days. Therefore, D/P sight is quite similar to COD except that banks are involved instead of carriers. However, D/P x days allows greater flexibility since the buyer can pay later.
As with COD, the seller assumes a significant portion of the risk with D/P. If the buyer refuses to take delivery, the bank cannot enforce it and has no other option but to return the documents to the seller.
With small shipments, the supplier ships to the buyer's bank. In the case of D/P sight and the bank releases the shipment only after getting paid. With D/P x days, the bank releases the shipment but makes sure that the buyer pays after x days.
Therefore, in principle, D/P is quite similar to COD except that banks are involved in the transaction.

Replying to [valerie]: It´s always much better to get a T/T in advance, but if you want to sell with Cash on delivery terms you NEED to be 100% sure that the shipping company that you use are able to offer you a 100% safe shipping service. All the best Jens
