I absolutely agree with you that we should use some analytical approach when it is needed. But I think you haven't done as you suggested. Because if you have used some analytical approach, you will know what I mean by "bourgeois". If I use "third class" instead of "bourgeois", you will have no misunderstanding of my words, is that correct? Do you just want me to admited that the English language is a rich language?
I never deny that I want to be rich man with a lot of money. I don't think that I was in any way inconsistent.

Aping, you said: "If I use "third class" instead of "bourgeois", you will have no misunderstanding of my words, is that correct?"
.......................................................................................

No Aping, sorry to say that is not correct: "third class" does not mean "bourgeois".

Bourgeois is a person who belongs to the middle class ... the class between "workers" and "elite".

But in socialist theory, a bourgeois is a person who is a property owner, a capitalist.

However, if you said "bourgeois attitude", you would mean a person concerned about only material things (material wealth) or a person just CONCERNED ABOUT THE APPEARANCE OF BEING "RESPECTABLE".

You see Aping, if you say "bourgeois" when you really mean "third class" ... then you yourself have a bourgeois attitude because you are just trying to be falsely respectable.

If you mean "third class", just say third cl *.

Your hard work to improve your English is great. Just be careful when you use unusual words to "Take careful aim before you pull the trigger".

You have stepped on everybody?s toe and have apologized but with some reservations that you are trying to defend yourself by giving the excuse that you are not master of the English language.

It is more like don?t handle bombastic language if you have not master it, else it become your stigma, and a homing target as you insulted the integrity of others.

According to LONGMAN Dictionary of contemporary English, the word ?bourgeois? has 3 nuances:

1. Someone who is too interested in having a lot of possessions and a high position in society.
2. A member of the middle cl *.
3. Someone who belongs to the part of society which is rich, educated, owns land etc., according to: MARXISM.

All these 3 do not seem to fit into any one of the moderator?s personality. Aping must have borrowed the word from the Little Red Book as to No. 3. With this mindset, the bourgeois people are looked at with suspicion and having evil motives. Everyone is to be a part of the community, to have everything equal in wealth and possession.

Religious groups had the same rejection of rich people or those with material wealth as people seeking worldly gains, and degraded them as carnal or flesh. However this teaching of the last century has become stale and obsolete. The paradigm has shifted to encourage their followers to go into the marketplace. It is nothing evil to be rich and have lots of material possessions.

Thank you, you teach me something else. It is obvious that I have made a mistake when I was using the word "bourgeois", Street Smart, who I respect from the bottom of heart, have looked up the word for me in the Longman dictionary. Indeed it is not the meaning I want to express. But it still has nothing to do with your "bourgeois attitude", I have no Longman dictionary in my hand, I just have a network Chinese-English dictionary, when I don't know how to express myself, I looked up this word "bourgeois" in this dictionary. When I used it, I don't know the phrase "third class" is more appropriate.

When somebody says something that I believe, I never disprove. But sometimes when I meet some viewpionts I don't agree with, I can't help talking back, leting my emotion lead myself to express myself spicily. If I find that I have make a mistake, I will admit as soon as possible. I believe in truth.
Thank you very much for your exact explanation of the word "bourgeois". I didn't borrow the word from the Little Red Book as to the No.3 explanation. I had my headache when I had to study Marxism in school. As a matter of fact, I have dreamed to be a man who belongs to the part of society which is rich, educated, owns land etc, as listed in you No.3 explanation. I have no rejection of rich people, I believe that most rich people are rich because they are smart, realistic, active, and human. I have a favor of them.

You know Aping, my heart often bleeds for you good Chinese people trying to "write" in English.

That's because, unlike Chinese, you have to learn to "speak" good English before you can write good English.

Written Chinese is of course "pictures" ... you know what I mean. You can learn to write Chinese characters without speaking it. So, for example you get a Mandarin speaking person and a Cantonese ... neither can understand each other's spoken language but each can pretty near read the same single written language. Like an English speaker and a French speaker both able to read the one common written language. That's pretty hard for us here in the west to comprehend that it is possible.

But it's all so different when you come to English. Here the written word follows how people speak. Written English actually changes to keep pace with how people actually speak.

So, it's darn near impossible to learn good written English unless you somehow first learn to speak it.

I often suggest to my Chinese friends that they watch English TV or radio and repeat the words out loud as the shows goes on. For many, the words are spoken too fast to repeat out loud. The trick here is to tape record the words and then replay in slow mode.

Once you get a good handle on TV show English you are up and away.

Thank you very much for telling me this. I always think that if I want to speak English well, I must watch the English vedio and listening to the English radio. But I didn't know watching and listening had so much things to do with my writen English. I like the good America movie and TV program very much. As a matter of fact, I have been watching the "apprentice" on the computer with my friend when I am duty off in the recent days. These are really good programs. Watching " apprentice", I can not only improve my English, but also learn some business philosophy from it.
I will watch English vedio to improve both my oral English and written English.

Say the words "out loud" as you watch the show.

Never try to talk like Donald Trump or you will lose all your friends and business in five minutes flat.
