Which Buyers will buy the products they inquire about?

I am amazed at the number of suppliers here on Alibaba that complain about making samples and sending quotes but not receiving any orders. I would like to hear some of your experiences on these projects.

As for buyers, there are many "buyers" on Alibaba that have no intention of buying the items they inquire about or they ask for a higher quantity than they actually want.

1. If you want to get orders then you must pre-qualify buyers. If they are not experienced in international trade or affiliated with a good company it is not likely they will have an order.

2. If they want to buy the product for their own personal use, they probably will not order or if they do, it will be a very small order.

3. They must know the details of the project including logo specification and material in order to have a serious chance at placing the order with anyone.

Hi!

If somebody currently involved in trade were to look for an alternate supplier, they would usually know their supplier's competitors. Therefore, unless they were interested in rejigging their supply chain, they would approach the competitor rather than log onto the Internet. And, those interested in going up the supply chain would be very few compared to the vast majority of people who dream of establishing business relationships through the Internet and making it big. Therefore, I feel that most buyers on Alibaba are small, with limited finance and, probably, home based businesses who are trying to set up their own international business.

It is now possible for such businesses to contact potential suppliers and buyers through the Internet. In contrast, before the Internet, you had to use trade shows and other means to develop business relationships. Therefore, the interaction was face to face and you could examine the products before ordering. In addition, there is no way to find out whether a potential associate is legitimate or otherwise when you contact someone through the Internet.

The Internet lacks in these areas and some means to greatly reduce these risks are needed. For example, the feedback system on ebay and payment methods such as escrow.com and Paypal are some but by no means foolproof ways to overcome these drawbacks of the Internet.

Since the vast majority of the users are small, they really are not familiar with international trade or even aware that traditions, business systems and a myriad other things could be different in different regions of the world. Therefore,
1) we will see the same questions being repeated over and over again on Alibaba and other forums and
2) most buyers really do not know their way and are trying to feel their way into international trade. As a result, they simply ask for quotes and suppliers reply to them because they have no idea about the potential buyer.

Many of the suggestions you have mentioned are very good. However, the Internet does not offer much of an opportunity to pre-qualify potential business partners because the available information is very limited. Therefore, we come back to the same point, i.e., some method to reduce the risks of doing business through the Internet needs to be found.

Replying to [importghuru]: In reference to your posting. I disagree that if we are begginers we do not buy. I recently started an import business and bought from the first company I came into contact with, however I was dissapointed by the quality. I believe that beginners are more careful and will probably buy in small quantities as you pointed out, however this is the process of testing the market and the process. I would encourage suppliers to capitalise in new business.

but if that is not a real buyer, what will happen?

They will send many inquire but don't have any purchase plan...

many factory will busy to reply this kind inquire....

hehe, anyway this kind condition must be exist, because they must do it before they to be a real buyer...they have to know some kinds goods before they have the final idea, then they will choose one which they think they will get more money from this kind goods.

and then do the further work, just it...so everybody don't complain alway why there have so many inquire but no real order, maybe someone will give you very huge order in sometime who you think he is not real buyer....
