Subject: For search matching and defining the product

Good Subject = Precise & Concise Product Name + Appropriate Distinctiveness (i.e., general specifications of a product/industry, approved certifications, product series/brands/abbreviations/full name)

Specifications:

  1. Select a more popular product name for a larger search volume. 
    Example: Select "PVC slippers" as opposed to "PVC baboosh".

  2. Select a more detailed product name for a clearer definition. 
    Example: Select "bathroom rack", "glass shelf", etc., as opposed to "shelves".

  3. Use a concise and precise product name. 
    Example: Use "squirrel plush toy (new design)" as a subject as opposed to "new products", "very pretty new toy", etc.

  4. Distinct descriptions should support, not confuse a product name. 
    Example: Use "angel series stone statue" or "stone statue (angel series)" as a subject as opposed to "angel" or "angel Series".

  5. Be careful with upper case and lower case letters. 
    Example: “Pet bag” means a bag for pets, while “PET bag” means the bags made of the material named PET, or possibly a trademarked name.

  6. For product component, please include no more than two kinds of products, and these two should be very relevant to each other. 
    Good example: 125cc Motorcycle & Accessories 
    Bad example: 125cc Motorcycle & ATV

    Too Broad Imprecise Acceptable More Precise
    Subject Bike Scooter Gas Scooter Gas Scooter (EEC Approved)

    Reason Non-specific. Relevant but not precise. Precise and concise. Precise, concise and distinctive with approved certification, technical specification or series .

      Too Broad Imprecise Acceptable More Precise
    Subject Pet Plastic Sheet PET Sheet Transparent PET Sheet
    PET Sheet (Polyethylene Terephthalate)
    Mylar
    PET Sheet
    Reason Lowercase cause ambiguity. Besides, this refers to a huge volume of products, which only cause confusion. Relevant but not precise. Precise and concise. Precise, concise and distinctive with specification, full name or brand.



Keywords: for search matching with commas as separators of each other

Good Keywords: Precise and concise product name, synonyms, relative product names (i.e., Fuji Apple ← Apple → Fruit) 

Suggestions to improve buyer response: 

  1. First choice: Commonly-used product name + synonyms, full name and abbreviation.
    Examples: Acrylic Glass, Polymethyl Methacrylate, methyl methacrylate resin, PMMA;
    swimwear, swimsuit, swim suit, swimming costume, bathing suit, bathing dress, bathing clothes.

  2. Please don't separate descriptors/modifiers from complete product name.
    Example: Use "table lamp" instead of "table, lamp".

  3. Keywords should be highly relevant to the product in the subject.
    Example: Include "silk handbag, silk tote bag" in keyword section as opposed to " travel bag, school bag" if the subject is "silk handbag".

  4. Select related product family names.
    Example: Use"red Fuji apple, Fuji apple, apple, fresh fruit" Instead of "Agriculture, food".

  5. Avoid special characters and symbols, except those often used in the product names.
    Example: Often used ones: A/V cable, DVD-R, baby's clothes Avoid: # ; : ±, etc., especially those non-English ones.

  6. Please use product name + famous brands, approved certifications, general specifications, etc., as keywords except these distinctive words only, or product name + unknown brands, self-named series, etc.
    Example: Use "200cc ATV, EEC Approved ATV" as opposed to distinctive words only, such as "200cc, DOT Approved" or self-named series like "NX-21 ATV".

The detail part of 60 percent of clicked products was started with detailed product description like functions and specifications; 32 percent were started with brief company introduction like productivity and business scope, while eight percent were started with irrelevant info.

Therefore, we suggest you:

For products, start with product description in the brief profile section (if there is one, or in the detail part).
For Trade Leads, also include a brief company introduction like productivity and business scope at the end.

Example:

To post a piece of product for Motor Scooter, put main or important specifications above and some packing or logistics info at the end.

Milan, Italy - July 24 2006 In collaboration with the Italian Association of Foreign Trade (AICE), Alibaba.com hosted its first "Open Sesame" event in Europe. The seminar attracted 80 Italian buyers who came to hear about the e-sourcing tools and challenges, as well as Alibaba.com's buyer tools. Alibaba members Mr. Spaggiari, VP of WTC, and Mr. Megani, Director of Messarini S.R.L, shared their buying experiences on Alibaba.com: what tools they use when looking for a product or a supplier, how Alibaba helps their businesses and why they like working with Gold Suppliers in particular.

A lively Q&A session allowed the audience to share tips and experiences. The discussions were continued in a more informal atmosphere during the post-event cocktail reception hosted by Alibaba.com.

  •  64,451 attendees and 1,850 exhibitors attended the show. 
  •  Buyers requested and received more than 5,000 sourcing CD-ROM brochures.

Chicago, IL, USA – June 2006 The NPE 2006 took place in 949,500 square feet of show space at the McCormick Place Convention Center, attracting 64,451 attendees and 1,850 exhibitors. Alibaba hosted a 300-square-foot, in-line booth in the China Pavilion at the show. Suppliers from all around the world featured primary processing and auxiliary equipment, machine and mold components, resins and compounds, additives, fillers and reinforcements, and moldmaking services. Throughout the five-day event, processing equipment was shown in full-scale operation on the show floor.

Highlights from the show:

March 31,  Hong Kong. This year, APLF had two fairs in one: Materials, Manufacturing and Technology (MMT), and Fashion Access. MMT represented manufacturers of raw hides and skins, dyes and chemicals, tanning machinery, shoe making machinery, CAD/CAM software and systems, exotic leathers, upholstery leathers and synthetic leathers. Fashion Access was devoted to finished leather goods like footwear, bags, travel ware, garments and accessories. All told, both fairs drew nearly 2,600 exhibitors from 59 countries and regions, along with more than 42,000 visitors.

Hanover, Germany ? March 2006 CeBIT 2006, the leading international B2B fair of the entire ICT industry, was held March 5-8 in Hanover, Germany. It featured 6,262 exhibitors from 70 countries and nearly 450?000 trade visitors. Of all exhibiting European nations, Great Britain was the frontrunner with 189 firms represented, followed by the Netherlands with 112, and Italy with 84. There were seven major products areas: Business Processes; Communications; Digital Equipments & Systems; Banking & Finance; Future Park; and, Public Sector Park.
