Approving contacts in TradeManager

Introduction

Earlier this week our customer service team received an email regarding TradeManager's Contact Approval settings. In response, this tutorial will explain the options available to you and show you how to change the various settings so that you can manage your TradeManager contacts more easily.

How do I change my contact approval settings?

TradeManager LogoWhen TradeManager is first installed, the default Contact Approval setting is Request my approval to be added to another member's contact list. This means that when someone wishes to add you to their contact list, you will be asked for your authorization before your name will appear in their contact list. Unauthorized contacts will not be allowed to send you messages.

If your Contact Approval setting is set to Open to all members, you will be automatically added to a persons contact list if they wish to add you as a contact.

To edit you Contact Approval settings:

  1. Go to File > Preferences.
  2. In the Preferences dialog box you will see a list of choices on the left-hand side. Click on Contact Approval.

Preferences

  1. Select either Request my approval to be added to another member's contact list or Open to all members by clicking on the appropriate radio button to highlight it.
  2. Click Apply to submit the changes.
  3. Click OK to close the dialog box.

Remember, these settings are your preferences, so you can change them at any time.

How do I stop contacts from sending me messages?

Blocking a ContactIf you would like to stop receiving messages from a contact you can block them. Once a contact has been blocked they will no longer be able to send messages to you and you will appear offline in their contact list.

To block a contact:

  1. In your contact list, click on the name of the contact you wish to block to highlight it.
  2. From the menu bar select Contacts > Manage Contact List > Block.
  3. A red circle with a line through it will appear over contacts name to indicate that they have been blocked.

If you are considering whether or not to block a member from contacting you, remember that messages from blocked contacts are automatically deleted.

 

How do I unblock a contact?

Blocked ContactYes. If you wish to unblock a contact and begin receiving messages from them again follow the steps below:

To unblock a contact:

  1. In your contact list, click on the name of the contact you wish to unblock.
  2. From the menu bar select Contacts > Manage Contact List > Unblock.
  3. Your contact should now be unblocked.
