The International Manufacturing Technology Show 2008, held this year at McCormick Place in Chicago on Sept. 8-13, posted its strongest showing since 2000 with a record attendance. Some 1,800 companies were present to showcase more than 15,000 new machine tools, controls, computers, software, components, systems, processes and technologies. The exhibition covered more than 1.2 million square feet of exhibition space, and attracted over 92,000 visitors to the six-day event.

"We are ecstatic that IMTS 2008 not only achieved, but exceeded, expectations and objectives," stated IMTS Vice President - Exhibitions Peter Eelman. "The feedback from exhibitors and the purchasing activities of attendees proves that manufacturing is not only healthy, but thriving.

One of the major highlights of the show was the Alibaba.com booth in the Lakeside Center. The bright orange bags seen throughout the show floor generated lots of buzz for attendees, who flocked to the booth for fun activities that also educated people about sourcing online at the B2B portal. “This event gave us a great opportunity to show visitors exactly how Alibaba.com can help them find suppliers from around the world,” commented David Wang of Alibaba.com.

Aiming For a World of Suppliers
