Alibaba at 2003 Magic Show in Las Vegas, U.S.A.

Las Vegas, USA - August 28, 2003 From August 25 to 28, the fashion industry converges on Las Vegas for one of the most influential four days in the business – the MAGIC Marketplace. Alibaba joined more than 3,000 exhibitors showcasing over 5,000 brands and private label resources. MAGIC connects a global audience of serious buyers and sellers of men’s, women’s and children’s apparel and accessories. Thousands of retailers spanning single store boutiques to mass-market domestic and international chains come to this preeminent fashion Marketplace. About 60,000 industry trade professionals from 50 U.S. states and 110 countries across the globe attended the show.




Alibaba held its 300 square foot premier corner booth at China section of International Sourcing Zone. The sourcing zone attracted buyers representing every retail channel, from independent specialty shops to the largest department store chains that are interested in sourcing from China.


Alibaba showcased 30 product samples, along with their specification, pricing information and brochures from its Gold Suppliers. The excellent quality and attractive price of the products attracted many buyers. All kinds of buyers visited Alibaba, including retailers, distributors, merchandisers, importers, and manufacturers. Sourcing/merchandising managers from famous apparel companies such as Rebecca Taylor, Fubu, Bebe, Victoria Secret, Haggar, Factory-2-U, Dupont (swimwear dept), Walt Disney Parks and Resorts discussed their sourcing needs with us at Alibaba booth.




Many visitors told Alibaba staff that they are already Alibaba members. Mr. John K. Lee from Lee & Lee Group Ltd in Northbrook, Illinois expressed his strong interest in the sample provided by one of Alibaba’s Gold Suppliers. He said he imported 60 containers of similar products from China last year and is looking for more suppliers.




Alibaba also distributed its “Pre-qualified China Supplier CD-ROM” along with a brochure tailored for buyers at the Magic Show. The web-interactive CD-ROM contains product catalog and company information from top export-oriented Chinese manufacturers.

By the end of the 4-day show, Alibaba collected more than 1,300 on-site buyer inquiries along with their contact information. Among them, close to 200 inquiries are made toward product samples showcased at the booth.
