At the Harvard Business School, John Wu was invited to speak on a panel titled "Chinese Companies: Privatization and Globalization." This was the third time that Alibaba.com has been invited to speak at Harvard. Issues discussed included: What lessons have Chinese companies learned as they gradually penetrate the international marketplace? In light of the world economic slowdown, are companies still looking to aggressively expand overseas or are they re-evaluating their expansion strategies? What issues currently concern Chinese private enterprises in their strategic planning for the domestic and international market? What are the competitive strengths and weaknesses of Chinese companies in the global market?

Other speakers at the Harvard event included, Dr. Li Shan (CEO, Bank of China), Mr. Dennis Zhu (Managing Director and Head of China Investment Banking for JPMorgan Chase), Dr. Robert Yung (CTO, Enterprise Products Group, Intel Corporation), Dr. Henri Petit (Chairman and President Greater Asia Region, Eastman Kodak), Mr. Hugo Shong (Vice Chairman and General Partner, IDG Technology Venture Investments), Dr. Sing Wang (CEO, the Tom Group), Mr. Xiaoyong Wu (CEO, Phoenix Satellite Television), Dr. Joseph Ha (VP, International Business, Nike, Inc.), and a professors from MIT Sloan Business School and Harvard Business School.
