SANTA CLARA, CA – On 10 July 2008, Alibaba.com was present at New York City’s Jacob Javits Convention Center to take part in the ATX East show. ATX East was part of a super show which also included MD&M East, East Pack, Plastec East, Atlantic Design & Manufacturing and Green Manufacturing Expo.

At ATX East, attendees saw the latest in automation and manufacturing technology across a wide range of categories including medical, plastics, packaging and eco-friendly processes. They also had the opportunity to meet with suppliers and technical experts to address questions and concerns particular to their situations.

Among the more popular booths at the show was Alibaba.com. “We had many visitors to our booth who were curious about the possibilities offered by international trade,” commented David Wang, Trade Show Manager for Alibaba.com. “For many of our visitors, the need to expand their market reach internationally was becoming a critical concern. The opportunities offered by online marketplaces like Alibaba.com are exactly the type of resource these businesses need. To no one’s surprise, our booth was as big a hit with exhibitors as it was with attendees.”

Alibaba.com Members Speak Up
As a first time exhibitor, Alibaba.com’s staff was surprised to discover that many of the attendees were already members of the world’s premier online B2B marketplace. “A surprisingly large number of Alibaba.com members came by to see what was new on the site and to learn about ways they could expand their use of our online marketplace,” said Mr. Wang.

“Steve Elving of Brooklyn Plastics, an exporter of plastic film, told us that he’s received 50 inquiries over the last month, requesting information about their products.”
On the other end of the sourcing spectrum, long-time buyer on Alibaba.com, Ron Lowry of the Himalayan Salt Company, commented, “We’ve found the exporters on Alibaba.com to be receptive to our inquiries right from the start, even without personal contact.”

Juan Paez of Biomet, agrees, saying, “Alibaba.com is the best outsourcing tool to be found.”
