Sri Lankan garments tap duty free access to domestic markets

According to the concessionary terms under the Indo-Lanka Free Trade Agreement, a total of eight million pieces of Sri Lankan made garments were to enter India, subject to fabric and entry port requirements.

After allowing duty-free access to three million pieces of Sri Lankan garments made from Indian fabric, India has removed its port restriction with effect from April 22.

Now, the next lot of five million pieces would be allowed duty free or with a preferential marginal rate of 75 percent, provided they were made out of Indian fabrics.

These new concessions have been negotiated as part of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement between India and Sri Lanka.
