Alibaba.com, in an effort to continue to promote the interests of our members' businesses overseas, took part in a number of key events in Europe and Asia throughout the month of May.

SINGAPORE, ecThink eSymposium


Alibaba.com CEO Jack Ma delivered the keynote address at the ecThink eSymposium, sharing the experience of Alibaba.com with leading IT industry leaders and businesspeople in Singapore. The esymposium was organized by a consortium of leading technology companies including Cisco Systems, Accenture, Microsoft and Oracle and designed to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship in Singapore.


In his keynote address, Jack discussed the need for technology companies to remain focused on serving the needs of members in a constantly changing environment. Jack discussed how Alibaba.com regards B2B as "Businesspeople to Businesspeople" and that it was time to give eCommerce back to the businesspeople to help them use the Internet as a tool.


Other speakers at the conference included Ms. Yong Ying, CEO of the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore as well as a panel of investors and entrepreneurs.

JAKARTA INDONESIA, ASPACTEL 2001


Alibaba.com VP of Marketing Porter Erisman represented Alibaba.com at a high level telecommunications and technology conference in Jakarta Indonesia which was attended by telecommunications ministers from around Asia, including Wu Jichuan, Minister of China's MII and telecommunications ministers from India, Singapore and Malaysia.


Porter delivered the address, "Internet and Global Trade: What Technologies are Businesspeople Ready For and What Technologies are Here Too Soon?" Porter discussed the real value that the Internet is providing businesses in Asia- the ability to promote their businesses and find trade opportunities. Porter also pointed out the importance of not getting too far ahead of customers' current needs and shared some successful case studies from Alibaba.com's members.

ST. GALLEN, SWITZERLAND, ISC SYMPOSIUM


The Alibaba.com team returned to St. Gallen Switzerland to speak at the ISC Symposium, one of Europe's premier conferences for business leaders and students from around the world to exchange ideas on the future. This year's forum discussed the topic, "The New Balance of Power" and Alibaba.com CEO Jack Ma delivered an address in which he discussed the key success factors for the new economy.


As part of the conference, Jack Ma appeared on CNBC Europe's most popular program "Squawk Box" in which he discussed Alibaba.com's partnership with Planetarabia.com as well as future directions for business to business trade.


Alibaba.com's participation in St. Gallen follows on last year's successful event, in which Jack Ma spoke on a 3-person panel including Nokia CEO Jorma Ollila.
