Apr. 18, 2008 (China Knowledge) - The Census and Statistics Department of Hong Kong announced yesterday that the city's total goods exports posted a 5.5% increase year on year, while its imports volume jumped 9.8% compared with the same month of last year.

The re-exports of goods rose 5.9% in the same month of last year. However, the exports of local-made goods fell 4.5%.

During the first two months of the year, volume of total exports of goods rose 10.9%, and its volume of imports grew 13.7%. The re-exports of goods went up 11.4%, with a 2.6% fall in exports of local goods.

Prices of total goods exports increased 2.8% and the price of goods imports rose 3.5%. The price of re-exports jumped 2.8% while that of domestic exports grew 3.4%.

In February, the total export volume to mainland China and Germany increased 12.2% and 7.4% respectively, while that to Japan, the U.S. and the U.K. reduced 0.7%, 16.4% and 20.3%.
