Yesterday I chatted with a TrustPass member who asked me what he could do to attract more buyers. One way to attract more interest from buyers is to make sure that your product information is both accurate and well presented.

In this tutorial we will look at how to effectively present your product information so that prospective buyers can quickly learn about your products and you can gain a competitive advantage over your competition.

To edit submit product descriptions, you must first sign in to My Alibaba and then select Post a New Product within the Selling Tools options. If you wish to edit existing products select Manage Products.

Ideally, product information should be as detailed as possible. When submitting your product information, make sure you fill in as many fields as you can so buyers can find out as much information as possible. Remember information such as lead times, minimum quantities, payment terms and methods all factor into the decision making of your potential customers.

Features, benefits and advantages

Merely informing buyers that you can supply a product is not enough. I would suggest presenting the features, benefits and advantages of your products, as doing so will make your products more attractive to buyers. You may also find that good product descriptions will give buyers the impression that they are dealing with an experienced and knowledgeable supplier. Product descriptions such as the one on the right are not helpful to buyers and will not help you in your search for buyers.

Checklist

Product descriptions should be clear and concise and presented in a format that can be quickly scanned for important information. Use the checklist below as a guide when writing your product descriptions.

1. Write the entire product description in English.
2. Check for spelling errors.
3. If your product description includes specifications or features, label them as such and format them into a list for ease of reading.
4. Where product descriptions are better suited for paragraph format, use short sentences no longer than 32 words.
5. Try to prevent product descriptions from becoming too long, as people will be reluctant to read them.
6. Do not include information about your company in product descriptions. This information belongs in your Alibaba.com Company Profile.

Below are a few things to remember when writing product descriptions. Remembering these tips will help you to write effective product descriptions.

1. Replace long words with shorter ones.
2. Make sure paragraphs focus on one idea.
3. State facts, not opinions.
4. Do not over claim or use flowery language.
5. If your product is new, tell the reader what is new about it.
6. Use headings such as Features or Specifications together with a list format whenever possible.

Use the information in the list below as a guide to help you take and submit the best product pictures possible.

1. Make sure that products are well lit.
2. Photograph products against a neutral background.
3. Include only one product in each picture.
4. Check that product images are clear before uploading.
